More Critical acclaim for an Altara release

Beethoven: The Late String Quartets / Camerata Nordica - Terje Tonnesen. ALT 1024 (3)

'Enter from Sweden the 33 year old Camerata Nordica in an astonishingly fine set of arrangements by Terje Tonnesen.'

'The amazing thing about these quartet enlargements is how much they retain of the smaller originals.... In the latter half of the 13 minute 4th movement of No.14, for example, there is a prayer-like adagio whose grandeur leads to a lone viola playing a sweet ascending scale, then in turn the line is repeated by a solo cello, then a solo 2nd violin and then a solo 1st violin. It is but one of many high points in the performance of this great quartet.'

'The Music is well recorded, with just the right space around the sound. There are occasions when the violins whiten above the stave in the difficult writing of the Grosse fuge, but that should not keep the listener from appreciating a powerful and penetrating performance.'

'This is a baroque-size ensemble of 15 or so that can be light and transparent when necessary and full of bite and drama and depth when that is called for.'

New Recording with the David Piano Trio

We are delighted to announce that the exciting young Italian group has recorded the complete works for Piano Trio by Schubert. These acclaimed artists travelled to London for the sessions at the end of April and we look forward to issuing their performances of these much loved masterworks in the Autumn.

These sessions were supported by the Borletti-Buitoni Trust.

Viviane Hagner - more critical acclaim

This brilliant young fiddler has chosen three works for unaccompanied violin - Bach's Partita in D minor, Bartok's Sonata & Hartmann's Suite No.1 - and they make the perfect vehicle for her artistry. ***** (five stars)

Latest Review for ALT 1021(2)

'The prospect of listening to a live 1960 Brahms 2nd Piano Concerto with the Warsaw Philharmonic excited me as much because Witold Rowicki was conducting as because the soloist was Artur Rubinstein. I wasn't disappointed...Rubinstein's approach combines visceral energy with the sort f aristocratic poise we always expected from him, and the Chopin 2nd Concerto coupling is similarly persuasive'
