'Full of youthful beauty..... testosterone without brutality which I find very attractive'
Opus magazine, February 2007
Pianist Patrik Jablonski brings everything he can to its performance and succeeds in making this a captivating recording of the work. He is forceful and aggressive without it seeming like he's banging on the piano in the more percussive sections; his playing in the second movement is sensitive and soulful.
Addinsell's Warsaw Concerto, which gained its original popularity in a movie now long forgotten, is perhaps the most successful performance on the album. Here again, Jablonski's playing goes back to taking risks and playing with more vigour, as he did in the Khachaturian. Maybe he's just one of those performers who strengths rest more in showcasing lesser-known concertos; buy this album for the Khachaturian and Addinsell.
Review on www.allmusic.com - April 2007
This unique coupling from Swedish pianist Patrik Jablonski is a tribute to Shostakovich in his centenary year together with an overview on works written for Piano and Orchestra between 1936 (Khachaturian) and 1957 (Shostakovich).
These dramatic and tuneful works are given fine performances by Jablonski and the Polish orchestra under their distinguished chief conductor, Wojciech Rajski.
It is particularly pleasing to hear the Addinsell in the company of other fine concertos rather than being relegated to a ‘film music; disc.
