Altara artists appear at Midem

We are delighted to inform you that Peter and Patrik Jablonski will be appearing at Midem in Cannes on the 29th January. Peter will be performing a selection of Mazurkas by Chopin, Szymanowski & Maciejewski from his upcoming release on Altara (more news soon) and he will be joined by Patrik to perform a 4-hand sonata by Mozart from their acclaimed disc (ALT 1017). The brothers will also appear, later that day, on Radio France.

'The prospect of listening to a live 1960 Brahms 2nd Piano Concerto with the Warsaw Philharmonic excited me as much because Witold Rowicki was conducting as because the soloist was Artur Rubinstein. I wasn't disappointed...Rubinstein's approach combines visceral energy with the sort of aristocratic poise we always expected from him, and the Chopin 2nd Concerto coupling is similarly persuasive'

Exciting recording sessions announced

The most recent of our recording sessions this Autumn has been a disc of songs and poetry from the 1st World War, concentrating on the songs of Ivor Gurney, William Denis Browne & Eugene Goosens. Julius Drake returned to the studio to accompany exciting young tenor Andrew Kennedy. We were also delighted to welcome Simon Russell Beale into the studio to read some of the magnificent poetry of the period.'

October saw Altara play host to Barbara Bonney and Andre Previn who recorded a series of songs for soprano by Andre Previn. They were joined in the 4 songs for Soprano, Cello & Piano by the distinguished British cellist, Paul Watkins. The coupling, Previn's String Quartet, which has a part for Soprano, will be recorded in May 2008.

In August Inger Dam-Jensen (soprano) and Malcolm Martineau recorded a disc of Richard Strauss lieder. This disc of both well known and lesser known lieder is the 1st in a series of vocal recordings that Altara will be undertaking in the coming months.
